National Burger Day Recipe

People have been participating in Burger Day since the early 1900s to celebrate the most popular meat dish - Burgers! Originating in the USA, celebrate Burger Day in style at home by following our incredible Cheesy burger recipe below:

Stunning Cheesy Burger with Tangy Guacamole


450 lean beef mincemeat

115 g blue cheese (Stilton/Gorgonzola)

1 tsp Dijon/whole grain mustard, 2 yellow onions, fresh thyme

Accompaniments: Salt and pepper, lettuce and sliced tomatoes and 4 burger patties. For an added kick: add bacon slices or mushroom


1 red onion, 2 avocados, 2 cloves garlic,  6-8 cherry tomatoes,bunch of coriander juice of 1 lime, salt and pepper to taste

Fry onions in a medium non-stick pan until golden. In a separate bowl, mix the mincemeat, salt, pepper, thyme and mustard.  Mix until consistent through-out and then create round patties around 1/2 inch thick.  Place burgers in the oven at 180C for around 25 minutes. Top with blue cheese and place back in the oven until melted.

In the meantime, toast your buns and prep the guacamole. Combine 2 avocados with red onion, chopped cherry tomatoes and two cloves of garlic. Season with fresh lime juice, coriander, salt and pepper. Once this is complete, build your burger with a burger bun, burger patty, tomatoes, lettuce,onion and guacamole and volais!
