Our Classic Mulled Wine

 

Looking forward to warm cosy Christmas nights? Why not settle down with our classic mulled wine recipe, perfect for an after work beverage or special occasion.

 

Ingredients

 

  • 2 bottles of full bodied red wine
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 3 Star anise
  • 8 Cloves
  • 1 lemon juice and zest
  • 2 large oranges
  • 150g caster sugar (add more if you like it sweet!)
  • 1 tsp nutmeg

For an added kick: 100ml brandy

 

Method

 

Firstly, grate the zest of the lemons. Then slice the remainder lemon and orange thinly to be used as garnish later.

Combine ingredients and simmer for 8 to 10 minutes (do not boil) . Take it off the heat and leave for around half hour with the lid firmly on to infuse.  

When ready, reheat the wine to a warm temperature and serve. Garnish with remainder oranges, lemons and cinnamon sticks in heatproof glasses for an added festive effect!
